First of all caheck all the engine mounts are tight and not knackered:
If the engine and box move too much it might be enough to pull it out of
gear, amybe. Secondly check or get someone to check the selector cable
adjustment, other than that? Perhaps a worn selector in the box, which
means a new box or a rebuild.

Any horrible noises?

No horrible noises bit of a burnt clutch smell though but is fine in all
forward gears have done the usual checks to check if the clutch is worn
and it all checks out ok. cheers for the advice i will look at those
options.
