Check the radiator it probably has a blockage. Many years ago I had a Ford
escort that did the same. I can't remember whether I managed to clear the
blockage by back flushing the radiator with a hose pipe or whether I
replaced the radiator.

Thanks for the reply, I will check it out tomorrow, I should have done it
today but I was out with my partner in his cavalier (diesel) when the timing
belt broke, camshaft on that one is a gonner :-(
So twice as urgent now for me toget mine sorted.

It is possible you have a blown head gasket. You can buy a kit to test
weather your head gasket is leaking. It is small bottle you hold over
the radiator tank that holds a blue solution that turn yellow when
exahust gas passes through it. It can be found at most parts stores.
