1.4 8v 2001 Polo cambelt change query

hi

A relative has a 2001 Polo with 20k miles.  It has the 1.4 8v engine.
We're unclear whether the cam belt needs to be changed.

The service log book just mentions renewing the belt every 60k miles.
But I've read here and elsewhere that the plastic tensioner is prone
to failure on 16v engines and perhaps the belt should be changed at
40k miles or 4 years.

Can anyone tell me whether the 8v engine is similarly prone to belt
failures and whether it uses plastic belt tensioner?

cheers

bill

Personally, I'd get it done regardless. I've just had the belt changed
on our 16v Lupo- officially there's no chnage interval, but most people
say change a belt if it hasn't been done in 60k or 5-6 years regradless-
ours had done 40k/7 years.
