Rear brake mk4 golf

My rear brakes pads and discs are needing changing and was wondering how
straighforward a job it is ?

I did the front pads and discs not long ago and it wasn't too bad. The
caliper pins are a bit fiddly to get lined up but no problems.

Just wondering how different the rears are, and if the handbrake mechanism
affects what I need to do.

Also I read that the bleed nipple need slackening off to allow it to go back
easier. It was said you needed to do this on the front but I didn't and
didn't have a problem getting them to go back. Also says you don;t just push
it back but must "wind" is clockwise for it to retract ?

Any advice and tips on this job ?

(I have a rewind tool aswell to aid with the job)

If they're like MK2 Golf rear calipers, the piston needs to wind back in on
a screw. Fairly easy to do. The PITA thing on a MK2 is that the rear wheel
bearings are in disk - there is no seperate hub, just a stub axle, a wheel
bearing and the disk, and it's a pain in the arse to fit them without a
press. It's doable, but it's a pain. I suspect MK4s won't have altered
*that* much. The other thing is that the handbrake mech on a mk2 needs to be
fairly carefully set up - if there's no slack when the handbrakes down, they
never self adjust.

Thanks for the advice all.

Hopefully should be a straigh forward job from the sounds of it. Famous last
words :)

Might even paint the rear calipers while I'm at it in fire engine red hehe

It's very straightforward assuming you have the right rewind tool.
Halfords sell one for about £20.
