Golf 1.8T 20V, 100K miles, year 2000.

Twice the golf has failed to start first time.

1. From cold a few weeks ago, the starter motor was turning the engine,
but didn't start until I put my foot on the accelerator.

I took the car to VW, they found no fault.

2. From warm last night, again the starter motor was sounding good, but
didn't start until I pressed the accelerator.

Any ideas? I was thinking about using Redex, as the car's done 100K and
as I never get the revs up high perhaps it needs a clean out!

Thanks

It's worth trying Redex and also giving it an "Italian tune-up" i.e. get it
warmed up and then give the motor a good thrashing through the gears using
all the available revs. You won't hurt it by doing that.

However it does sound like there may be a fault somewhere but try the above
first and see how it goes. I assume the car is well maintained otherwise.

Might be worth a go.
