Been about a year since I last serviced the MK4 golf.

Went into GSF to buy all the bits, air filter, oil filter, oil, plugs,
pollen etc. And noticed the brand name MANN on the oil filter ...made in
Germany. Just wondering what the reputation is like of this part. Looks like
a good part to me. The guy said MANN are top notch OEM quality.

Just wondering if anyone knows anythin about them ?

I used one sometime ago on our polo and found no problem TBH.

I've had both VW and Mann filters in front of me at the same time. As far as
I could see, they were identical, with basically the Mann name replacing the
VW logo - the other printing is the same.

Interesting stuff, souds top notch to me. The guy at GSF seemed to know what
he was talking about.

I don't supposed you noticed any weird looking kind of dent\impressions
going all the way around the oil filter on the business end that screws in
where the lip is ?

Not particularly. If you upload a picture of one I could tell you if it
seemed odd but I'm not going to be near my shed and therefore my oilfilters
for quite some time now...

Yeah sure VW use Mann filters anyway.

Think that is normal, seem to recall them on my own filters.

I think MANN filters are used in Volvos as standard.

Mann make OEM filters for VAG, I believe- they are a well-respected
firm. I always use genuine VW, Mann, or Bosch and have for many years.
Generally speaking, GSF know what they are selling, and if they say
something is OEM quality, it is.

Just to let you know I needed to remove the air filter from a brand new
Mercedes truck and that was also made by Mann so if they are good enough
for a £100,000 Merc truck then should be good enough for your golf!
