MK4 golf 1.6s 16v 2001
My cat has been on its last legs and needs replacing a call to vw and they
said its a complicated job and called me back with a quote of £634 inc parts
labour and vat. *gulp*
Called GSF car parts and the part on its own is £112.80.
Now the vw service guy said they had to drop the subframe ? and modify the
the exhaust to get a new one on. Not sure if this is true or not ?
Having never touched a cat before I simply thought it was a case of removing
heatshield, unbolting cat, bolt in new one maybe with new gaskets ? and job
done. Perhaps wishful thinking ?
No chance I'm going to vw with this problem.
Reason for new part is my cat on acceleration rattles like a fooka :) and is
driving me made and then I guess its chucking our more emissions so a
possible MOT fail.
I'm hoping someone on here know about changing a cat on the 1.6 01 golf and
would be a superstar and sharing :)
Advice welcomed

Are you 100% sure it isn't your heat shield thats rattling? I had a
rattling under my old Golf which turned out to be the heat shield.

Hubby checked that as a friend said it could be that or a broken exhaust
mount in the middle somewhere but both are intact leave the most expensive
git of a repiar.
Sods law.
