90 1.8 8v 150,000 miles-

It stopped running while I was accelerating.  Now it won't start.

Previously, it had been stalling frequently at stops.

Now I get a spark but no start.

Please help!  Thanks...

Does the fuel pump run for a second or two when you turn the ignition on?

If not, check fuel pump, fuel pump relay, fuse, wiring.

Does it have a fuel inertia cut-off switch? If so that may have tripped.

Quite possibly one of the ones with two fuel pumps. A lift pump in the
tank and a high pressure one out of the tank. Check you can hear the
'bzzzt' of them priming when you turn the ignition on.

Check the vacuum hoses. My 8v split the 1" one under the black plastic
filter doodar on top of the cam cover [1], the original lasted 15 years,
the dealer replacements lasted about 12 months a shot, so I had a
handful in the glovebox as they were £2 each.

Never got so bad that it wouldn't start though. The only thing that
stopped mine starting was the hall sender on the distrubutor.

[1] Sorry sure you know what I mean, but can never remember what they
are called.

I know what you mean about the filter on top of the cam cover- I've
had a similar experience.

I'm not sure what you mean about the hall sender on the distributor.
Can you elaborate on that?

Thanks!

There's a wiring loom into the side of the dizzy, that's the hall
sender. Can't really ellaborate further than that, but when mine cut out
& wouldn't start, the AA diagnosed it as that [1], confirmed the
following day by the local garage, and fixed with a new dizzy.

Fuel pumps mine still ran with the lift pump out but you could hear the
main pump struggling, so I quickly turned round & headed home. The lift
pumps were around £20, the main pumps £100.

[1] It's a multimeter test job but I'm afraid I don't have a clue.

It's a 3 pin connector on the dizzy as Jon describes.

This is all IIRC, so if anyone can correct me, go ahead.

With the plug connected, and the ignition on, one pin is earth, one is
+5v, and the other (middle one?) should pulse if the engine is turning,
twice? for each turn of the engine.
