I bought an Alpine CDA-9885 CD player, a kit and a wiring harness for
my volvo. I removed the old POS radio, no problems.  Now I am not sure
what to do.  With most cars you just connect the new radio's wires to
the harness wires, plug and play.  What is it that i do not know about
Volvos?  The Metra wiring harness came with two different harnesses
and neither of them have little prongs inside that line up with the
factory radio's prongs.  It looks like I got the wrong harness but
that package says "Volvo 240 series 90-93."

This is turning out to be tougher than I thought.  Does anyone speak
this language?

What does the harness you got look like? I've installed radios in several
240s and the wiring always plugged right in. Seems like I did have to
install a connector on the rear speakers though, at least the older 240s
used an external amp for those which needs to be bypassed.

The Metra harness i bought came with 2 wiring harnesses.   Harness
(#1) has ONLY 8 speaker wires. (the typical purple, green, grey and
white)  Harness (#2) has Power, Ground, Accessory, Illumination Power
Ant, and 4 other wires for 2 front dash speakers.  My car does not
have front dash speakers.  There is only one plug that goes to the
back of the factory radio so which one would i use?  Clearly i cannot
plug in harness (#1), but i cant plug in harness (#2) either because i
checked and the wires wouldn't even match up.  I guess I have the
wrong harness although the package it came in clearly says "volvo 240
series 90-93 PW R/4 SPKR."  The only thing i can think of is maybe
that last part, "PW R/4 SPKR" makes this harness different.

Anyway, thank you all for your help,

Josh

Follow the wire from the radio, is there an external amplifier on the
firewall?

My 91 had an external amp behind the cubby at the bottom of the panel
between the front seats...

Sounds like you got the wrong harness. I just installed a Pioneer in
my 90 240 and the harness plugged in no problem. The only wiring I had
to do was the 6x9s I put in the rear deck. Check out Crutchfield's
Volvo harness. Thats where I got mine. Plus, they have really detailed
Volvo-specific installation instructions.

Me too; got a radio from Crutcfeld with the replacement dash panel and
harness for the 240, no problems.
