Hi,

I'm interested in buying a '93 volvo 850 glt with 142k. The car has a
good body not rust or dings etc the interior is modest and there are
no lights on when car is running tranny shift ok. however, the owner
tells me there is a slow leakage of coolant into the oil(actually
checked the oil and was milky at one point). He thinks this is due to
a bad head gasket.(Also the rear main seal was and radiator were
changed at some point) I talked with my mechanic who confirmed that it
could be a head gasket or crack in the block. Is there somebody on the
forum who has ever had of issues with the head gasket? I would like to
restore this car but do not know whether this is a basket case that I
shouldnt waste resources on. Somebody HELP!

Thanks,

Frederick

It is probably a bad / blown head gasket.

A competent mechanic / repair shop can run some diagnostic tests to
ascertain the problem.

I would stay away.  Depending on how long the oil water mix has been in
there it is highly likely to have done other internal damage.

Thank you for the advice. I decided to pass on it.
