Anyone have any suggestions on why after replacing my starter my car
still will not start. Battery has been checked and have tried jump
starting it and still nothing. I just recently spent $1500 at a Volvo
repair shop and am not looking forward to returning to give them any
more money. It has been suggested to me that it could be the starter
relay or something in the gear shifter telling the car that its in
gear keeping it from starting. Any quick easy suggestions on how to
pin point without taking it back to the dealer/repair shop?

Does it try to turn over, or do anything??  I posted a similar problem on my
'01 V40...several posts prior to yours. I am going to try the two
suggestions that I got....
1. Reseat/Replace fuses (probably starter fuse)
2. Try starting in neutral to see if it is the gear shifter switch.
They may apply to you as well.

The shift interlock switch is a fairly common problem, try wiggling the
shifter while attempting to start it, or try in neutral.

How did you manage to spend $1500? I hope they did other work besides the
starter!
