I found a real nice looking  740 turbo wagon today that has high miles
but seems to runs well, looks great inside and  out the person is
asking $1500.

I'm wondering if this would be a good price or not

What are the common problems to look for with one of these?

Thanks

If it's in nice shape and drives well then I think the price is good, that's
very little money for solid comfy transportation. Things to look out for,
well oil leaks, plugged up crankcase breather (which can cause the former),
crumbling engine wiring harness (pre-'89), and other various things that
older cars can need. The mileage isn't much concern, I've got almost 300K on
mine and it runs fine, but if it's over 200K or so it'll probably benefit
greatly from new suspension bushings, shocks, struts, possibly front wheel
bearings. If the car is in good cosmetic condition I'd go for it, mechanical
issues are easily fixed, but cosmetic stuff is hard to find and pricey.
