Is it possible to verify from a VIN or build date if a Classic edition
is a true Classic edition? Was it all of the last 1600 built, or were
they at random? Thanks for any help.

You could call Volvo customer service.  I called them about a car listed on
eBay I was thinking of buying.  They were very helpful.  The number is on the
Volvo website.

Hi,

We are the fortunate owners of a '93 240 "Classic" wagon (from new)
#533/1600.
I don't think the VIN will be of much help in identifying a "Classic",
unless the manufacturing plant is a clue.  Ours was built in Gothenburg
(Sweden).  Build Date was 3/93.

The distinctive original equipment might be more helpful.  It includes:
Chrome grill with body colour surround.
Body colour rear view mirrors.
Wood Trim dash.
"Mag" wheels, 14" with what I call "basket-work" spokes.....  (I got rid of
them.  Replaced with 15" Turbo-type.)

The paint job also was unique to 240 series:  dark blue-green metallic (such
as ours) or dark metallic red.

Your other questions would be answered probably by contacting Volvo.

Good Luck.
Andy I.          P.s.  ...........and of course the "Classic" plaque on the
dash, to the left of the radio, and the"Classic" emblem at the back of the
car.
