Today I discovered that my battery was dead after 10 days of non-use
and that the heater fan motor won't run. Lights blink on the control
panel to indicate a problem and fault codes 4-1-7 and 4-1-8 come up.
4-1-8 seems to be the likely one indicating a lack of "control signal
to blower fan power stage". Anyone know what that means? What the
actual problem might be? This is the electronic climate control
system and all seems dead except for the recirculate and AC Off
lights.
Any ideas would be much appreciated. I assume that the dead battery
is a separate issue (like the broken left glove compartment hinge
possibly allowing the light to stay on).

Asuming you are checking B1 code 417 stands for "temerature sensor fan on
passanger side blocked".
Clear al faultcodes with a fresh battery in the car. If you install a new
battery they might be reset alredy.
