My Air conditioning is not working in an '87 240 DL ! :(
The car sat for a few years but was brought back to life 6 months ago and
7,000 miles ago!
When I turn the knob for the AC I do not hear (or feel) the AC go on. I have
checked the fuse and it's OK (I even replaced it to be sure).
Any ideas or steps I should go through to troubleshoot this would be greatly
appreciated!
Thanks in Advance!

Start the car, turn the A/C on full, fan in position 1 or 2, look at the
plate on the front of the compressor. By the right headlight there's
the receiver-drier, on top it a safety pressure switch. Connect the 2
wires together that are on this switch. You should hear a click and see
the compressor start turning. If this is what happens, then what is
wrong is the freon has leaked out, you need to find out where.

Chances are the O rings dried up and it lost it's charge so the pressostat
is shutting down the compressor. Get Volvo's kit and have it coverted to
R134a, it's not too hard to do and it works well, charging it in the future
is cheap as R134 is a fraction the cost of the ozone depleting R12.
