So...I don't see too many S40's on the road here (Portland, Oregon) but
there tend to be a few at the dealers.  Pretty much set on purchasing one
but dealers seem to be way overpriced.  Majority of the ones I have seen
range 15ish to as high at 17 with 50,000 miles on them - some have as few as
30,000 miles.  Blue Book private is around 12 - which is what I would like
to spend.  I wish there were more private sellers out there wanting to sell.

Are they this way in other places or do I have to pay a "premium" for Volvo?
Other cars don't seem to have as big a markup.

Another question - might get a biased answer in this group but do you feel
spending $15,000 on an 01 S40 with a few options worth the value?

Thanks for you help in advance.

I got my 2000 S40 with the winter package for $25K in NY.  So $15Kfor what
you describe seems high. If the dealer is offering somehting that you won;t
get buying from an individual, it may be worth paying a little more.  Have
oyu tried negotiating?  Have you looked at online sites that do the buying
for you?  My price for the 2000 S40 was via an online buying site.

Doubtless in anticipation of the arrival of the "new" S40, Volvo sold
quite a few of the older model to auto rental companies.  When these hit
the used market (it never takes long), prices are likely to take a
dive.  If you can wait . . .

Not worth it. You can get a nice S80 T-6 for that price.
