Hello all!

I have a 1987 240 DL. I have to crank it for about 2-3 minutes in the
morning before it starts. It then will stall one time before I get going and
then it seems fine. The rest of the day it seems to start instantly . Then
every morning I have to keep cranking until it fires up!

Any ideas ?

Thanks in advance for any help !

I have a 1981 GLT wagon that wouldn't start after a heavy rain or if it had
been rained on all night.  At first I would take off the distributor cover
and wipe it out with a dry rag, wipe the wires dry and the coil wire and it
would usually start.  One day I tried an experiment, knowing that WD-40
displaces moisture/water. I sprayed the wires and distributor liberally and
the car fired right up.  Now it is the first thing I do if it won't start
after a few cranks.

eCave:

You can also check the integrity of the wires for the engine temperature sensor.  I
have an '84 240 and I've had those wires replaced (really hard to get at) when I had
hard starting.  There was also a technical service bulletin for my car on how to wire
in a resistor to assist a flakey sensor during cold starting.  You should ask your
mechanic about that.  Cranking for two to three minutes can't be a good thing!
