Volvo S40 2001

Need Help,

The center knob (Air flow direction) does not ligh up anymore. The
knobs on either side still light. I know it must be a bulb, but I have
no clue how to pull off the front panels to get at it. I have a 1999
manual, but it doesn't help. I asked the dealer if they could just
tell me how to remove the panels. That was a waste.

Anyone ever change these bulbs?

Thanks,
Ed

Does the climate control module sit right above the radio?
There are two different configurations. One more difficult then the other.

I have the radio on the bottom, on top of that is the trip computer
and cup holder section and on top of that is climate control section
with the 3 knobs.
The top section is the vents and emergency flashers.

With my luck I have the more difficult one!

Thanks,

Ed

I will check on this and get back to you on 10-26.

With the engine off, apply the parking brake and move the shifter down into
first gear. Next look for the two release tabs on both sides of the radio.
Push them in far enough for them to pop out. Pull both tabs out as far as
they will go and pull the radio out. Before you disconnect the connectors
and antenna cable(s) make sure you have the radio code. If you can't find
it a call to the dealer should get it for you. Behind the radio you will
see one philips head screw. Remove the screw. Next gently pry the climate
control face plate off. Pry only on the four outer corners. Remove the
four screws on the corners of the unit.
The panel below the climate head should move away far enough for you to
get the head out. Before you disconnect the head, put the trans back into
park and remove the key from the ignition, it may set a code if you unplug
it while its still powered up. Unplug the connectors and pull off the
plastic tube. You should see the three bulbs in the back. Remove them by
turning about a quarter turn. The part number for the bulbs should be
30618412. Replace all three while your in there. Reassmble it all, put in
the radio code and your good to go. It may sound hard but its really easy
once you do.

I tried it today and I got to the bulbs with no problems. I tried the
dealer for the bulb and they want $11.00 for one tiny little bulb. I
can't find that
number on the Web anywhere. Any idea as to where I can get one other
than the dealer or is a specialty bulb, dealer only?

Thanks for all your help,
Ed
