Hi-
Does anyone have any experience or knowledge about retrofitting older
volvos with a driverside air bag?

I'm guessing it's possible- the latest models had them, right?
You'd need a new steering wheel with the air bag- but what else?

Is this folly?
I have a 1979 245 that has been in the family since new and has over
350K miles on it (original engine and transmission) and running strong
and the safety issue is the only thing keeping me from making it my
daily driver (again) and eventually putting my young teenagers at the
wheel of this vehicle with a fine family history and immense kharmic
capital.

Thanks for your input.

Cheers.

If i'm not mistaken there are sensors involved, possibly electronics
hardware... It's probably much more difficult then you think (tho I have no
idea for sure) but I know they are very costly to replace.

You're extremely safe with the 3 point safety belts you currently have
installed... installing brand new ones would be the best/cheapest option
IMO... Maybe you can even get the latest design of seat belt design with
pyrotechnic tensioners and all those other things.

what would it take? A nutter.
Folly - yes: how many safe miles did you say it had done?
Teenagers having an accident in your 245 will probably be safer than in a
small modern car with air bags ;-))
