I really need some help!
I've got an '01 S60 T5 and it's got a 5 speed in it.  The clutch grabs
when the peddle is almost all the way out.  There is a little bit of
free play when the peddle is all the way out, but it isn't really
"free"....there is just a little pressure on it.  Oh, and it seems to
be good and tight, because it doesn't slip as far as I can tell.

Can somebody explain what a Volvo hydraulic clutch should feel like?
Where should it grab?

Would it be smart to give another Volvo a try to see how it's clutch
works?  If they grab after a lot of travel, then that's the way they
work......but I can't get anyone to just spell it out for me.

thanks!......I mean it.

Take-up should begin at about 1/2 of travel or less, John.

Have you checked the fluid level in the hydraulic fluid reservoir for
the clutch?  If down as much as your question indicates, there's likely
a leak somewhere.  Such a leak is acceptable *no*where.

Hi,

never had a manual Volvo, but all my others you could adjust the take-up to
where you wanted it - prefer about 11/2 inches from the floor personally but
some prefer it almost at top.

Check near the top of the clutch pedal to see if there is an adjusting nut.

I think with hydraulic clutches any adjustment doesn't get made at the
master (pedal) end, but at the slave end, and the ones I'd had were all
pretty much self-adjusting.

If it grabs nearly at the top, the disc may well have started pushing up
daisies, although that seems incredibly early to have done so.

Has it always had the action up at the top?
