air compressor 240

We recently purchased a 240 1990  Volvo for our son and the compressor is
history .I am able to strip a compressor off a 244 for free ,problem is are
they interchangeable Its the rotary compressor like my wifes 88 740T and my
1990 740 T . Is the older type (not sure of the year yet )when did they
change from York to rotary .

The rotary type started with the B230 in 1985.

You can't easily go from the York to the later style compressor. You'd need
all the old brackets, the split crank pully, the old style power steering
pump, the rotary compressors are easier to find in good shape anyway.
