The vent control pushbuttons that open and close the floor vents and the
defogger vents no longer have any effect in the 240 wagon. Anyone had this
happen to them?

No, but it sounds like a vaccuum hose has come loose. The servos that
operate the air control vavles are vaccuum operated. You can get at many
of
them, and inspect the vaccuum reservoir (looks like several plastic
bibbles
linked together) by removing the console front panel and side kick
panels.
The reservoir may not be needed. Ours won't operate the controls with
the
engine off anymore, but they all still work with it running.

Thanks for the tip! I was expecting an electrical problem.

What are "bibbles"

Odd little things that appear when you're posting in a hurry.
They look very very much like "bubbles". Simarly, "vavles" are
often mistaken for "valves".

In my case, it was a small hose under the hood that cracked and broke on a
VERY cold morning.

That was the culprit, alright. I replaced all of the bad-looking vacuum
hoses and snipped a clean end on the one that goes into the car, hooked
everything back up, and it worked.

Thanks to all who responded!
