I'm currently living in the south of the Netherlands, just below
Eindhoven and on the border with Belgium. Can anyone suggest /
recommend a good, trustworthy supplier of Volvo parts/spares? I want to
avoid the main dealers.
Also, if you happen to be able to answer this question, chances are you
might know if there are any Volvo clubs in the locality.
Thanks - Tim

What model car do you have Tim?
Cheers, Peter.

Thanks for the recommendation Maarten. I gave them a call this
afternoon - well, atually, my dutch wife called them with instructions
about what to ask! They offered us a used alternator with a 3-month
guarantee for 90 euros. German&Swedish in England will do me a brand
new alternator for 65 pounds. The price is the same, but one's new and
the other's not.
I have a friend travelling to England soon, so I'm tempted to just wait
and get the new part. At least if I get stuck on anything and decide I
need professional help I have a recommendation to go on. Thanks.
Why is everything to do with cars more expensive here in Holland?

Wish I had an answer to that, and could solve it!
However, there are a few more options you might want to try:
1) try a dealer in Belgium or a scrapyard (there is a large one arcoss the
border south of Valkenswaard)
2) go to a Bosch (eh, what is the brand of your alternator?) service point;
there is one in Eindhoven.
Bought a new fuelpump for my 850, two years ago. About 40% off the Volvo
listprice was the result! Yes, right
off the shelve! Nice people too, the still know that they have to
perform. Volvo dealers often do not...
The might even be able to advise you on a rebuilt!
3) Repair the alternator; useually the diodes are the parts to check. They
will cost you only a fraction
of the 65 pounds.
Love to hear how this ends!

Maarten
Thanks for the tips. The Bosch place in Eindhoven sounds like a really
good one for me to check out. One of the things that's playing on my
mind is wanting to have an international warranty/guarantee. I've been
to Kwik-Fit (sad, I know) for a few bits and pieces since being here
because, when I return, I can always claim from them in England as
well. I would assume the Bosch centre would be the same.
I don't know if you've seen my other thread about titled 'alternator?'.
Last night I ran a test or two and it definitely is that. Here's hoping
it's a cheap, new diodes fix.
Enjoy the snow!
