Volvo 240 thump between first and second gear

I have a recently bought Volvo 240 '86 with automatic transmission.
When taking off there is a slight bump just as the transmission shifts
gears.
It seems to be coming from middle/rear of the car.

Driving at speeds slow enough not to warrant a shift produces no bump.
Shifts between subsequent gears also do not produce any thump.

Should I suspect driveline or transmission, why is it only happening on
the shift between first and second gear?

Kris,

Make sure you use ATF with FORD spec's!
This should ease the shifting of the BW55.

Apart from that, there is a rubber mounted in under the middle of the car.
The prop shaft runs trough it. Replace it, it is probabely a sponge by now.

Then. Determine if the propshaft is propperly placed. The joints should be
90 degrees otherwise the shaft wants to tremble.
Than check if the U-Joints on the prop shaft have "play". The one at the end
just before the differential causes the mosttrouble.
Than, check the kick-down cable if it is propperly adjusted. You can
influence the shifting habit of the BW55 with this.
Mail me PM if you have more questions.

Cheers,

Martijn
