My car is a 2000MY V70 2.5D - UK spec. (old shape).
For the past couple of days the alarm status indicator (just behind the
bottom centre of the windscreen) flashes furiously for a few seconds every
time the ignition is turned on - and then settles down ok.
The driver's handbook suggests that this may indicate a fault in the alarm
or immobiliser system. However, the car locks and drives perfectly
normally - and the status indicator flashes once per second, as normal, when
the car is parked and locked.
Can anyone throw any light on what the fault might be, what its likely
consequences are, and how to fix it?
TIA.

The alarm has been activated for some reason, but you did not see or hear
when the alarm was activated.
By reading the error code from the service connection you can find out why.
I had the same problem, and had to disconnect the horn. Just to avoid a lot
of noise at the public parking place until I found the problem.
At Volvo service they told me it was the rear side windows that had a bad
connection.
