I'm new at Volvo repairs.
How do I go about replacing the rear shock absorbers on a 1992 Volvo
960?
Where can I find the upper attachment - in the trunk of behind the back
seat?
There is a lot of noise coming from the rear of the car and I suspect
the shocks (actually the diver side one).  Are there other things I
should be looking at?

Thanks for you help,

IIRC it's near the top of the real wheel well.  After you've removed
both the upper and the lower bolt, you'll have to turn the shock 90
degrees to get it out of the lower suspension arm.
