Depends on many things. Is the V70 going to be AWD? Both cars from
the same model year?
As a rough estimate, I compared the 2000 V40 against the 2000 V70.
The V70 was the five speed auto with the 2.4L engine.
V40: 21 mpg city, 28 mpg hwy
V70: 20 mpg city, 28 mpg hwy

Thanks!
Right, the V40 is an old one - first year it was produced. The V70 -
something like a 98, I reckon - and no, probably not AWB. Both manual.

The 2.5 20v will give around 26-28mpg in town, and upto 36mpg on a steady
long run. On average you'll be around 31-32mpg driven 1 or 2 up with more or
less nothing in the boot.
These figures are for spring / summer time. You'll loose about 2mpg during
the winter- more if its short town driving.
Keeping the tyres pumped up and it properly serviced will all help.
