With just under 40k miles, I've had the rod links front and back replaced
b/c they were worn and the suspension was rattling.  This is my first Volvo,
bought new in 2001, and I thought they were quite durable cars.  Is this
usual wear for this car?

Thanks for any info.

I've replaced mine twice in under 80K. The service manager says they
consider them a "maintenance item". This is probably my only real
complaint about the car. Sorry I don't have better news.
