While looking for various sensors in the engine of my Volvo 850 GLT tdi
I have disconnected the wrong sensor and now the display has logged a
fault with the Lamda air quality sensor.

This is not faulty, just by starting the car with the sensor out has
logged it as a fault.

So, the question is:

Is disconnecting the battery likely to reset the diagnostics module and
clear the fault light when reconnected?

... or is this a whole dead-horse-flogging session of the highest order
and I will need to either invest in £80 for  service charge or a small
square of black tape to cover the light ... hmmm tough one that.

Will I do any harm by disconecting the battery, I have a note of the
radio code...

TIA,

P.

The light will reset itself after the car goes through 3 check cycles,
or "trips" without the fault reoccurring.  On my '98 V70 a "trip" is
accomplished in my drive to work which includes 15 min highway, 15 min
stop and go, about 35 km total.  The fault will be stored in memory with
the light out for 40 warmup cycles (which is more involved than a
trip).  So you can safely ignore the light.

The light stayed on for over 1 week of normal usage (every day)

Eventually it was put out by a Volvo garage engineer for the price of a
pint when the boss wasn't looking!

Cheers,

P.
