Help with 850 squeaky steering

I have a 94 850 wagon (non turbo) that squeaks when I turn the steering
wheel. It is the kind of squeak you get when you rub polystyrene foam
against itself. Does anyone have any idea what may be causing this and how
to rectify the problem?

Do you have arthritis? ;)

Sorry, I don't have anything constructive to say. My guess would be the
turn signal mechanism. Does it matter what position the turn signal
lever is in.

I've had this squeaking, but in a 760. In that case it was the
SRS contact reel.

Well I listened again today and it may actually be the dashpad, instrument
cluster, or area around the steering wheel. Whenever there is movement on
any of those I hear the sound...

Thanks for the link. After reading through it I think my problem is
actually in the dash/instrument cluster, which was removed a few months ago
to replace the A/C evaporator and heater core. The squeaking noise started
then, so I think that may be the source of the noise.

If you look under the boot covering the steering wheel tie rod just
before it goes through the floorpan you will see a white nylon disc.
This disc gets dirty and the lithium grease wears away. This was the
source of my steering wheel groaning. Just pry the boot down below the
disc to remove it. Regrease and replace. All should be good.
