Well no matter how many times I warned her, my wife continued to spill
coffee on the control panel located just under the cup holders.
Guess what?  The windows do not work quite right any more.  Surprise!!  I
had the sales man and owner of the place where we bought the car tell my
wife the replacement part would cost ~$500 when we bought the car...sigh.
Anyway before I spend that money I would like to pull the panel off and see
if I can clean it.

I looked at the unit and can not figure out how to pull it off--I tried to
gently pry it up, however it did not seem to want to come out.

Do I need to remove the entire console?  How does it come apart?

Thanks!

Lift up the arm rest console, remove the access panel in the front of
the storage box. Remove the two T25 screws. Lift up the hand brake lever
all the way. Remove the plastic trim piece below the handle. Remove the
lighter. Remove the two T25 screws in the front of the switch panel.
Raise the switch panel and pull back slightly. Remove the two T15 screws
holding the front of the console. Slide back and up from the rear and
remove the entire console as a unit. Take to work bench perform magic.
Reinstall.

You can clean inside the switches without removing the panel.  If you
rock the individual switch in one direction, then pry on the raised end,
it will pop right out.  (I use the screwdriver blade on my Swiss army
knife, as it's rounded and doesn't mark the plastic.)  Under the rocker
is 2 each of springs, (may stay in the rocker, just leave them there,)
ball bearings and contact plates.  Remove the balls (you don't need to
do anything with them) and clean the contact point on the plates.  Then
clean the contact points in the bottom of the switch.  Set the plates
in, place the balls down in the middle, then snap the rocker with the
springs held in place with grease back into place.
