New Volvo Owner w/ Questions...

Hi All,

Just recently purchased a 2002 v70 cross country and I have a few
questions:

Today I turned on the wipers and the work just fine, it's just that the
motor(s) make this horrible "woowww-woowwww" sound as the blades move
up and down. Is this normal? I'd like to think not because it seems
very annoying and distracting. It can be heard quite loud in the cabin
as well as outside of the car. This should be covered under the
warranty we purchased along w/ the car, correct? Please advise.

So here I am playing around w/ the new car in the garage. No key in the
igniyion and i notice a faint humming noise coming from the center
console. It's as if the tape player is running but that is not the
case. Any idea where the sound may be coming from? Should I be
concerned? Again, no key in the ignition, and nothing is on whatsoever.
Also, I plan to tint the windows (rear passenger as well as the
remaining rear windows. Any recommendation on the type of tint? 70%?
75%? more?

Thanks,
Vince

The wipers should be covered if it was bought from a Volvo dealer and is
pre-certified. If not, not sure what you can do about it...talk to your
selling dealer.

The "humming noise" is your climate control temperature sensor which is a
small fan forced unit. Look near your temp control, you'll see a small 3/4 x
3/4 grill type thing. That's that air inlet for the climate control. Put
your finger over it and you'll hear the sound diminish.

Tint...that would be up to your local states regulations. Here is MA it's
35%, 70% is way dark, even darker than  limo tint which is 45-50% and will
result in a 250$ ticket here!

In California, if you have dual outside mirrors you don't even need
windows behind the driver's position (it use to be that if the driver
put their arms out to the sides, anything behind the finger tips could
be spray painted black if you wanted, but nothing in front of that
point that wasn't factory tinted. I use to have a VW van and put up
curtains, and I just removed the inside rear view mirror and put it in
the glove box. But as you stated, it varies by state.
