Hi, I have an 81 DL240 and it recently just decided to quit running.
Here's the symptoms: It randomly will start or won't. However, I've
found if it won't start, I can loosen the gas cap, tighten it back,
then it will start. It will run fine for about 2 minutes and then it
will start cutting out. If I try repeating the process just mentioned
it does do any good.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
MDD

Sounds like a fuel tank venting problem. See if it will run for longer
that 2 minutes with the cap off.

Make sure the fuel pump relay is working correctly. Listen at the fuel
filler when someone is cranking to hear if there is any fuel splashing
when the tank is below half full. This indicates that there is a leak in
the fuel feed line from the prepump to the main pump. Make sure the main
fuel pump runs whenever you are cranking the motor. Usually your
symptoms are those of a failing main pump.
