92 J reg 940s: when i get in the car the red light flashes to
put the imobiliser tab in the slot and should stop the light from
flashing but now it still flashes. If you try to turn the engine
over you see the dash lights go dim and nothing happends.the battery
seems fine and every thing else works ok.

Any ideas chaps?

If the lights are dimming, and so do the headlights when you turn them on
and try to start, sounds like the battery is flat or dud to me.

Try changing or cleaning the battery contacts and refitting them in the same
way as they come out.

All the best, Peter.

Its not that type of unit Pete its sealed and a phone call to them said
it has to be renewed and callibrated with the code so under the dash we

If it's a Volvoguard alarm system with the grey rectangular fob (with
rounded corners) a set of new batteries is probably all that's needed.
'Calibration' is documented in the Volvoguard handbook and is very
simple. Here's a link to an online copy:

'They' may be telling you it needs replacement and calibration to
squeeze some money out of you.
