780 Sunroof question

Does the -88 780 have sunroof with tilt and slide, or just slide?
I was testing the roof on a 780 the other day, and the roof would not tilt,
only slide. Could there be something wrong with the mecanism?

My dad had a -85 740 some years ago and I remember that the roof could be
tilted for ventilation and be slided back.
Strange if a much more luxury car like the 780 has only sliding roof.

You should have the same sunroof as a 760 which is tilt and slide. Check
wiring to switch and connections between switch and sunroof. Let us know
what results you obtain as it is possible that one of the limit switches in
the roof actuator is playing up. Also make sure that the actuator's earth
connection is secure (under the cover for the actuator where manual handle
would be if manually operated).

All the best, Peter.

Yep you are right.....the 780 has only the sliding glass moonroof.  I
read an old review of the 780 when it was first on the market and the
reviewer claimed the moonroof on the 780 looked like a cheap patch on
an expensive suit.  I guess he felt it did not do the car justice.

That roof is not a glass one. First Volvo with glass tilt 'n' slide was 1994
960 followed by 1995 940.

All the best, Peter.

All our 780s in North America had glass sunroofs right from the start of
production, 1987.  As noted by someone else, it was slide only though.
The other 700 series cars had slide and tilt steel sunroofs.

Thanks for that info Mike, seems none of the European ones had glass. I have
a few in UK on my register, but they don't seem to have sunroofs even. Mind
you I haven't seen the one near to me yet as it has only just been restored.
The Dutch gentleman who comes over to our Main BKVs every year hasn't got
one on his either.

All the best, Peter.

Thanks for all the reply.
The roof is fine, then, since the 780 only have sliding roof :-(

But Peter, you are wrong.
The 780 I was testing the roof on, definitaly had the glass roof (Norway).
And the ones I have seen for sale in Scandinavia, all has glass roof.

Fine, another hole in my information has now been plugged, thankyou Per. I
would rather know than inadvertantly give out duff gen.
