Hi,

I know it is not easy to diagnose noise by description but some hints
would be good.

'89 240 with b230k, 185.xxx miles.

I am hearing a sort of metalic whirring sound at tickover, it does not
seem to change pitch as revs increase and is less noticeable with higher
revs.

The closest comparrison sound is the water just starting to boil in my
coal fired heating system.

It does not change with engine or outside temperature.

Thanks

Keith

My '83 has one of those mysterious noises too. Doesn't happen all the
time though.
On mine it is like a buzz... you can feel it as well as hear it. Like a
power steering pump that's low on fluid except it doesn't change pitch
with rpm's.
If it had a big ol electric fuel pump under the hood, I'd say it was that.
Injection pump? Torque converter maybe..? I dunno.

Puzzling, but it's been that way for years so it can't be that big of deal.
