Did you not test drive one first?

yes - but you can't tell much about a car from that. The important things
are about reliability, irritating faults, quirks and so on. Few cars will
show much wrong in a one hour test. It was very nice.

Comfortable, responsive, nice to drive, well appointed, dissapointing
build quality. Ours is 8 months old with ~ 30K Km and is already
suffering from annoying interior rattles & buzzes.

I had "annoying interior rattles and buzzes" in my '96 850 Turbo.
It was an evil-handling pig, too: it wiped out and wrecked in a fairly
modest sweeping curve taken at speed; the car's styling (and price)
implied the quality and handling of a BMW, but delivered the experience
of a Yugo.
