volvo started right up and we drove across town and back all is well... go
to get in it later go to Shucks to take back a few things it will not
start. so this morning i go to start it and it starts right up. later on
in the day it will not start again. take the battery out  to take it to
shucks which is close and will test your battery. battery is good very
good. kid says how about your alternator? god question could that be the
problem? this starting when it wants is really pissing me off and my wife
is going to start in very soon....thanks for your help.

So it's not even turning over? Intermittant start problems where it
doesn't turn over are usually the starter, they can also be the ignition
switch.

it will turn over just not start, its like it is just not getting enough
to turn over the engine but the battery is good.starter sounds like its
doing its job just not enough juice...
thanks

Check the quality of the Ground (Earth) strap connections on the chassis
runner, engine block and battery. Also check the battery feed to the starter
motor and the starter solenoid again for contact problems.

All the best, Peter.

If the engine is turning over normally then the battery is fine. The
power required by the rest of the stuff is trivial in comparison. If the
battery is too low to start the car the engine will turn over very slowly.

i checked the battery and it is good checked the alternator, its good car
sounds like it wants to start but cannoti recently changed the fuel pump
relay amd the water pump gaskets so maybe i messed something else up in
the process.

Bad frequency valve, perhaps?

940 won't have one of those, it'll be LH-Jettronic or Regina.

did he slap , or tap the fuel pump located
under the car...right under the drivers seat?...

Depends on the system, LH-Jet will have a prepump in the tank followed
by another pump mounted under the car in front of the left-rear wheel
well. Newer will have a single main pump in the tank.

hey guys, the one i am talking about us mounted
"out side" the cabin, under the car, right about under
the drivers seat.....my mechanic showed me this trick one
day mine took a "brain fart". he said sometimes the pumps
stop (these are for well worn pumps) right between
the wires or electrical components, so that a tap will move
them enough to run again.....anyway..i used this method
to get started about 5 times over the next 20k miles in
my 1993 940t untill i could afford a new pump installed..
for about $400...or so...

anyway, get a medum wrench or hammer and crawl under
the car so you are about under the drivers seat, look up
and you will see a round fuel pump...gentally tap it a few
times and start car...if it works, the pump will need replacing
sometime soon, in the meantime, just tap when it acts up...
good luck !!...

btw: i think there is another pump in the fuel tank...

It happens if the commutator is very well worn in some segments and the
brushes are not making enough contact for the pump to start running if
it happens to stop on one of these more worn segments so yeah sometimes
you can buy a little time by banging on it, I certainly wouldn't count
on that lasting long though, it's just asking to be stranded.

You can buy a pump online for less, it's pretty easy to install with
basic hand tools.

started and then just stoped and then started again. this car is new to me
and i am not a real experienced mechanic but this could be the answer. i
love this car and i hate driving that crappy van my wife has. thanks.

go through and think about the basics:

fuel
spark
compression

"Thanks that could be the problem"

what did you do or try??
