I want to buy some roof bars to fit the rails on my 97/98 V70.
I have seen a set of genuine volvo "245/745/855/945" ones.
Will they fit my car, or are they only for the newer shape models?
Also, what accessories will fit these - as I want to fit Thule or Mont Blanc
Cycle carriers on top?
Any help appreciated.
Thanks

I would take down the part number and ask a Volvo dealer.

Suggest that you buy a rack made by the same company that made the
carrier you are looking at. The newer racks and carriers are in my
experience much more aerodynamic and create less wind noise than models
from 20 years ago. If the one you mention above is an early 1990's
design, I would pass unless it is quite cheap.

I have the genuine Volvo racks for my 98 V70 and all they are Thule
racks so all my Thule bike racks etc. fit just fine. Also my Fabbri
roof box no problem.
I don't think the 245 racks will fit because those old cars had rain
gutters and the racks probably attach to the gutters. A V70 has no
gutters. The V70 rack grabs onto the upper edge of the door opening
(you must open doors first to install) and has small pins that fit into
holes in the car. Open your V70 doors and look for the single hole
inside each door opening, top-edge. This makes impossible for someone
to steal your rack without opening the doors first.
