Hi, Has anyone changed front brake calipers on a 96 S40 ?

I have covered 4000 miles since having all the pads replaced and they
are grinding again ! ( no im not a boy racer)

It has been suggested that i have a seized caliper on the front ( do i
need to change both ? )

Many thanks for any help.

And a happy new year :-)

Assuming the other caliper is not seized, you only need to replace the
bad one.  The other should be serviced at the same time, to keep the
balance between left and right.

Replace tt with t (twice!) and remove parentheses to email me directly.
(But I check the newsgroup more often than this email address.)

Are both wheels wearing at the same rate?  ie front left and right.

Maybe the rears aren't working, could be air in the system, bias valve
stuck closed.  Problem with the master cylinder.

Not sure how these brakes are designed, I don't know S40s.  But assuming
similar to 360s, 940s...

Bear in mind the mounting mechanism, is the mounting bracket bent, are
the slider pins worn and sticking, could be pins or the bracket.

Also the poster doesn't say they've checked the pads, are they worn down
all side? both wheels etc.  Could be a faulty pad, backing has come off.
