yes there is
1:) Bring car over to your local foreign car specialist or try Autozone
who can read the codes & reset the lights for you
2:) You can purchase a OBD1 scanner & read the codes yourself

"*-344-*Never Forgotten"
Is for the New York City Firemen who lost their lives on September 11,2001.
The official count is 343, but there was also a volunteer who lost his life
aiding in the initial rescue efforts. And I will never forget them as
long as I live,
nor should any American.

Owning a 1997 855 TDI and reading that posting I started to get interested in
the topic. I searched the net and got the impression that these scanners are
made specifically for one car manufacturer only? So one has to get a specific
Volvo-OBD1-scanner for the 1992-1995 models?
Then I noticed in my Haynes manual, that from 1996 and later the cars are
equipped with an OBD2-interface. This interface should be "standardized". So
would any OBD2-scanner read the codes or are there devices more suitable for
Volvo cars than others?
Is it possible to replace the scanner by a laptop + a special cable to connect
it to the OBD2-port + special software?

The 1994 model should have a diagnostic module with LED readout in the
engine compartment.

Depending on the fuel/ignition system fitted, all ignition/fuel system
codes are read from socket A2, or they are divided between A2 (fuel
system) and A6 (ignition).
The sockets are:
A1 - Transmission
A2 - Fuel system; Ignition (with Fenix engine management system)
A3 - ABS
A6 - Ignition (with LH3.2/EZ129K fuel/ignition system)
A7 - Combined instrument
B1 - Climate control (ECC)
B2 - Cruise control
B5 - SRS
B6 - Power seat
