Ok, I'll look out for that car, and its sweaty occupants...!

So is it not blowing or blowing but not cold? It's sort of critical to
the diagnosis.

Has anyone checked the system charge?

That's the place to start then. If the pressures indicate a charge is
present but the compressor is not engaging then look elsewhere but
checking the refrigerant charge is the first step.

Happened to me.  It was the compressor clutch.  The electro magnet had
failed.  It was getting voltage but would not engage.  There was a fuse
on top of the compressor but it was good.  In the end it cost $700 for
both parts and labor to fix it.  The compressor had to be removed from
the car to replace the clutch.
