In the last couple of weeks, my 1990 240 has started making an odd
noise.  When I start the car, the motor catches and I release the key,
there's a few seconds of a "chicken clucking" noise.  Maybe a turkey
gobble.  Anyone know what that is and whether I should be doing
something about it?

I hate weird noises in my cars.

Thanks!

last thing I heard that could remotely be described suchly was on my
Civic, it was the fuel pressure regulator trying in vain to keep the
rail pressure up when the supply was too low.

Hmm.  It only happens when starting the car and only for a second or
two.  Hot or cold start doesn't matter.  I replaced the fuel pressure
regulator a couple of years ago, come to think of it, but I can't
remember why.

My guess is a slipping belt.
