Some of you have been following my Megasquirt EFI conversion on a 240T.
Tonight I finished up the assembly, turned the key, and the thing actually
fired up! I was shocked, I hadn't even done much in the way of configuring.
Still needs a lot of tuning, and I still need to get some wiring and hoses
buttoned up and clean up my mess but so far so good. Wideband O2 should
arrive tomorrow, that should help the tuning efforts. I'll post pics when I
get everything wrapped up. I'm particularly proud of the engine wiring
harness, it's all new built from scratch, and it would take a Volvo expert
to recognize that it isn't stock. Now if only there was a cleaner solution
to the airbox. I can use the old K-jet one for now, I really wish the N/A
240 airbox would fit on the correct side, I'm really not a fan of those cone
filters, for some reason I strive to maintain a stock appearance.

Oh heck yeah, thankfully I didn't need it though. After a friend of mine sat
and watched his car burn to a crisp on the side of the road after he forgot
to put the oil fill cap back on, I went out and purchased a fire
extinguisher for each of my cars and another to hang in the garage. It's
cheap insurance.

Fire extinguishers are for sissies and wise men. A few years ago my Nissan
300ZX had an engine fire, and I proceeded to do everything wrong. In order:
1) I raised the hood to see what was making all the smoke
2) seeing there was a fire around the fuel injectors that had burned some
wiring, I figured I could handle it
3) I leaned over with my face a few inches from the little flame and blew it
out like a birthday cake.
A couple seconds after I blew the flame out one of the rubber injector
hoses, weakened by the flames and pressurized by the heat, let go and
sprayed about an ounce of gasoline where the flame and my face had been a
moment before.
We should have a poll to determine which mistake was the dumbest.

You survived and the fire went out.
It might have been dumb, but you didn't even get into the 1st qualifying
round of the Darwin awards (http://www.darwinawards.com/).

Cool....just rig up some nitrous oxide now, and then you are all set.

I think I could break the gearbox even without nitrous, even before the fuel
conversion the car was shockingly quick for an old Volvo with only minor
mods.

Look for 27 row NPR intercooler from Isuzu truck. It fits like a glove with
minor hose modifications. It is a well worth power gain modification.
