What's wrong with a 1997 960?

My Dad sold me his mostly dealer overmaintained 960 for $1500- in
April.  (spent $1700- on belt  & some other stuff just before he drove
it up from Florida).  I am looking at taking a job with a fair amount
of mileage in Suffolk County, Long Island, New York.

Is this the vehicle?

PS- AC dies at 95 dregrees with the humidity we have had the last few
weeks.  Is this a design problem?

PPS- any good shops on the island?

127000+.

I asked because of the list in the "My first Volvo" thread.

Still looking for good shops on Long Island.  It would be factored
into where we land for the next year.

If well maintained, that car is still in its prime. Keep up on the
maintenance and it should serve you well.

The 97 960 is an excellent car.  I should know cause I had a 95 960, a
97 960 and currently a 98 S90 (960 re-badge).

The  car will eat its brake pads and discs will get warped.  In
particular if you do only city driving and/or women driving.

Parts are rather pricey, but it's a luxury car, they'll tell you.

It is an AMAZING Volvo!  Apart from brakes and expensive parts, the
car is as close as perfect as you can find.

The A/C will need repairs after 4-5 years, just like 90% of all "old"
Volvos.

There was a MAJOR re-design of the 960 in 95.  The car is a true
reliable, luxury sedan.

Good luck.

Have a mechanic look at the temp sensor in the back of the engine - a
very cheap fix - when it goes, it kills the AC when it heats up.
