Hi.. Where can I verify what would be the stock or recommended tire for a 98 S70, Standard. I was going to by Michelin Exalta's but the shop refused to install them...stating they are H rated, my car calls for V's.. and he would not install them....(195-60-R15's..) As long as you change all 4 tires, there should be no problem with H rated tires, which are rated to 130 mph. Now if you're going to cruise at 100-110, then I would get V rated, but I can't go that fast and keep my license. In Switzerland and Germany it is forbidden to install summer-tires that are "underrated". H-tires are good for 210 km/h which almost all S/V-70-models easily are able to exceed. And the large chain tire stores have online databases that will point the salesman toward the correct size and speeed rating for your veicle. Finally, tirerack.com as well as most of the major tire companies have an online sizing service to identify the proper tires for your car. I've read that you can go down one speed range and not have an impact on safety, but I don't buy it. If you want to downgrade, keep shopping and you will find a dealer that will make the swap. Alternatively consider a Yokohama tire. In my experience they offer a ride comparable to the Michelins and have excellent treadwear and traction characteristics. Thank you all.. However, where can I verify if this car calls for an H or a V? Inside gas cover only shows size- 295-60-15's...Not the speed rating. Manual refers to door jamb, there is no tire info on any.. we bought this car second hand.... Costco's webesite excludes the Exaltos' (H), Tirerack includes them when doing a search by vehicle... My first 850GLT back in 92 (predecessor of the V70/S70) came already with 195/60-15V Michelins. H-rated tires are only allowed for snow tires. With them you can even use T-rated (190 km/h max). My choice would be a Yokohama Avid rather than the Michelin because of comparable real world performance, higher government rire ratings and notably lower price.
