One day my stock FI Bug runs great, no problems.  Next day, starts off OK
after a while it'll backfire and eventually stall.  Start it goes for a bit
backfires and stalls.  If I park it and let sit for about a half hour, it'll
start up and drive with no problems.

Are there gremlins?

   Tough to diagnose.

Could be ignition-related.  Any failure in the Coil circuit,
such as loose terminal or distributor problem can result in
spark at the wrong time and then complete loss of spark.

Besides the obvious wiring checks, look inside the stock
distributor at the advance pigtail; if broken, it can
   cause those symptoms.
