BugBum - 10 Dec 2003 06:01 GMT Before we get into the argument we had last year my vote is for MIRC again. It is easy to set up the channel again if it's been abandoned and all the instructions should still be on the website from last year.

In the past several years, the chat has actually gone on until mid afternoon on New Years Day, with usually about 3 or 4 people still chatting at the end. Jan says he will go 24 hours straight this year. The question is will he make it ??
Many folks will be drinking alcohol on New Years Eve. If you are drinking while chatting, we will probably be able to tell after the 6th or 7th Beer when your typos start to increase in frequency up to the point where your typing is jibberish. :o) At that point, it is time for a nap. The problem on New Years day for many is a terrible hangover. There are several methods used by people to help ease the pain, such as aspirin etc., but those are unimportant, as the best way to be 100% certain that you will be feeling no pain on New Years day is to stay drunk the entire day. LOL

Well, considering the fact that a huge part of teh world is in a time zone that gets to see new year before the US.. I'm not sure when I will start, but if I wake up just before midnight and log on, it's more than likely that our Australian and NZ friends have already passed out from all the partying.. while the US would still be sound asleep.. east coast being 7 hours behind me.. :D

I went to the ramva.org site and it did have instructuctions for downloading the software and accessing the chat site. Last year someone posted directions for accessing the site without downloading the software. If someone can e mail those to me, I can post them on a website, and have a link to the chat area. We have to make it as easy as possible so we don't have people that are intimidated by it.
I don't think we will have any arguments this year about the merits of having the chat on IRC.
In the past we started it at midnight on New Years Eve using Eastern U.S. Time. We are all in different time zones, so why don't we just start it whenever midnight happens to occur where you live. I know Jan is 7 hours ahead of the time where I am, so he gets to party a little earlier.
We have a lot of the old crew back this year. Sir Anthony, Kaferdave, Kidd and some others have returned, and we have run off most of the flamers so it should be calm and quiet this year hopefully. Just don't e mail our old friend Matt and have him come to the chat. :o)

We tried having on the STF chatroom last year, and it got overloaded, so we ended up going to IRC. I just checked the STF chatroom, and it looks like they have a new one this year. Only thing with this one is that you have to be a member of STF to use this one, and you have to be logged in. Not sure how many people this one will hold before it crashes and burns. The New Years chat is always a blast. Not something you would have time for everyday, but once in a while it is cool. Jan stayed in the chat room for 24 hours straight one year. He missed work the next Monday because of it, but you have to set your priorities, and his priorities were in the right place. :o) Seems like someone else consumed a large quantity of alcohol during the last chat, but can't remember who. We will have to get Shaggie back for the chat. He can post links in the chat to what type spicy of food he has cooked up and what type of liquid he is drinking. Perhaps we could have an online game of Quarters during the chat Remember that little drinking game with the shot glass from college.Have not played that one in over 20 years. Everyone would have to be honest about weather they got the quarter in the glass or not, and weather they actually took a drink. Ramva members under 21 could subsitute Orange Juice or Coke instead of Budweiser. :o)

Hey, as I said before :) there's also a web interface for IRC. If we have our chat room on undernet, we can use either the free mIRC program (I love it) or go to http://www.undernet.org/webchat.php and log in from there.
I will most likely be online most of the time... :) Hell maybe another Marathon Chat would be in order.. :D

I'm with Gerbil-butt. He got me onto undernet and mIRC and it's great. It's easier to just take the 5 minutes to download free mIRC and use that. The undernet site itself can lag and sometimes it gets an attitude and refuses to let people on. Btw, I've been on undernet mIRC under VWGoddess for awhile now and also as VDubber. I'll try to be here for New Years. You'll definately know me when ya see me. Can't miss a goddess.
