Oil for 1.8T?

Hi
VW dealer says my 1.8Turbo 20v (APU)  Passat B5 needs fully synthetic
oil.Is this true or will semi-synth do the job. Car has 124,000miles.

Using the proper oil should reduce sludge and increase engine and turbo
life!
