Yet another what car post20 Nov 2009 21:38 GMT52
For my dad.. he reckons this will be his last car purchase..
So, 4 doors, 2-litre petrol (he's in Athens, he can't have a diesel,
and anything larger than 2 litres gets *hammered* on tax). Other than
that, money no object..
Tax Band K19 Nov 2009 15:34 GMT4
Band K includes vehicles over 225g/km but registered pre March 2006.
Otherwise, these would fall into band L, which costs nearly £200 a year
more. Does anyone know whether this concession is due to be phased out? If
so, when?

Ultra low profile tyres for sedate drivers only?05 Nov 2009 20:15 GMT82
I've just got around to watching my recording of the recent Watchdog that
talked about ultra-low profile tyres.  Seems that the rims are prone to
cracking on the UK's roads and that the car manufacturers are loathe to
replace them on warranty, tending to reject the claims and blame ...

9 Ème TROPHEE ROSES DES SABLES MAROC  DU 8 AU 18 OCTOBRE 200915 Nov 2009 17:23 GMT1
Je m'appelle Maria, j'ai vingt sept ans, il y a douze ans, j'ai eu un
accident de la route à la suite duquel je restais deux mois dans le
coma. Les médecins me disaient cliniquement morte. Quelques semaines
plus tard, miraculeusement, j'ouvrais les yeux. J'entamais alors le long

Could Fuel Tank Crack When Fitting New Sender?07 Apr 2009 17:40 GMT1
The sender needs replacing in my fuel tank, but because the part has never
been changed in 25 years (age of vehicle), I've been told the tank may crack
during the process.
Would that mean a new tank, or could it be 'patched up'?

Why Won't Lorry Drivers be Told?20 Nov 2009 21:20 GMT10
About anything at all that is, including driving.
Indicisive pillock20 Nov 2009 21:05 GMT35
Just where the M62 east bound splits into five separate lanes to go
west (M62), north(M1), or south(M1) I was in L1 to go north.
In L2 to go south and well ahead of me was a little Alpha. Five times
he swapped from L1 to L2 and back again with no indications, settling
Lack of arm signals20 Nov 2009 19:59 GMT67
I can't remember the last time I saw a driver use
an arm signal.
I use them occasionally.
Is it a forgotten art or do drivers not bother
110mph in a 30mph zone!!20 Nov 2009 19:14 GMT712
A man has been charged with dangerous driving after speeding at more
than 110mph at Aberdeen's Beach Esplanade - which has a 30mph limit.
Police said the 27-year-old had been reported for "speeds in excess of
110mph" on Friday night.

Can braided,flexible brake lines replace copper pipe?20 Nov 2009 20:52 GMT5
My van has failed its MOT today on a corroded brake line. It is around 6
foot long, and is rather tortuous in its path, so much so, that I'm not
sure if it is possible to replace it without dismantling anything that
is bolted on that side of the van.
Mk 4 Golf sidelight bulb removal20 Nov 2009 18:15 GMT3
Have managed to withdraw the bulb and its holder from the back of the
headlight in situ and now have holder and bulb on about 5mm of
moveable harness so very hard to feeel and see it. Question is I cant
see how to remove the bulb from this little plastic highly breakable
Peugeot Expert van 2001 power steering leak20 Nov 2009 12:40 GMT2
I seem to have a leak from the upper connection to the steering rack.
The obvious thing seems to be check it's tight enough - any advice
welcome as have never touched this kind of system before?
Wheel bolts20 Nov 2009 00:37 GMT19
I've fitted 5mm spacers to my BMW fronts so the inside edges don't rub on
extreme full lock (i.e. they only rub if you are holding it hard against
the stop and going fast in small circles). I probably could have got away
with 3mm spacers but I couldn't be arsed to go round the ...

Car/route suggestion20 Nov 2009 11:22 GMT86
I hate Ryanair with something of a passion, but am faced with the
problem that they offer the only practical way to fly to Sardinia.  I
want to go to Sardinia to fall off some lumps of rock.  A fellow rock
faller-offer feels likewise, and so we have hatched the plan of buying a
TSI Engines - Any Good?18 Nov 2009 13:12 GMT16
Are TSI engines any good? Has anyone got a VW or anything with one?
I'm just wondering if they can be chipped or tuned to get more hp out
of them should you need it e.g. like you can with a TDI?
I've just got a 1.6 petrol Megane (115hp) at the moment [dreadful car]

Pinout for Ford 200005 Sep 2008 13:58 GMT2
Does anyone know the pinout for the connectors on a "Ford Sound 2000" car
radio cassette. I took it from my 1990 Sierra (along with the plugs that
went into the wiring loom) when I broke it up and scrapped it recently and
want to stick it in my campervan, but can't identify the ...

1969 Sunbeam Alpine Arrow.  Body mods20 Nov 2009 19:39 GMT3
I've acquired one, an abandoned project to convert to a convertible,
along the lines of the common Morris Minor mod. Being a two-door and
with a reasonably low body line I think it looks pretty good with (so
far) just the roof chopped.  Was wondering if anyone knows of such a

Number Plates - which type?20 Nov 2009 00:02 GMT27
I have a 1965 Jaguar S type - what type of number plate would have been
fitted to it originally?
Would it have had pressed aluminium or would a higher end car of that era
more likely had riveted letters, silver or white on black?
Advisability of driving Borg Warner without prop?18 Nov 2009 17:19 GMT3
I've got a RR 200Tdi with a BW xfer box, the front prop is ducked
(specifically it's in about 4 pieces, two of which are on the road
somewhere). I know the LT230 shouldn't be driven far/fast with the
difflock on, what about the BW box? is it likely to be affected in any
